Cardiology

Despite some healthy lifestyle improvements in eating habits, exercise and smoking cessation, men older than 40 have nearly a 50 percent chance of developing coronary heart disease at some point in their lives.

Cardiology care focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases, including coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), congestive heart failure, arrythmias, and other conditions affecting the heart and circulatory system.  Although different types of heart disease work in different ways, they all can disrupt the heart’s vital pumping action. At Lake Forest Hospital, we seek to prevent and diagnose early-stage heart disease to help patients avoid long-term heart problems. We also offer a cardiac rehabilitation program for patients who are dealing with serious heart problems.

Prevention—Lake Forest Hospital provides cardiac outpatient diagnostic testing, including heart healthy CT scans, electrophysiology, cardiac catheterization, coronary angioplasty, non-invasive cardiac testing, EKGs, holter monitoring, echocardiograms, GXT (graded exercise testing) and oximetry.  You also can lower your risk of heart disease by eating healthier, being active, not smoking, and taking measures to lower your blood pressure.  Dietitians, nurses, physicians and others on the cardiology team can help you develop and stick to a plan for heart-healthy living. Cardiac Catheterization Lab—Our new cardiac catheterization lab features a state-of-the-art cardiac angiography suite that provides quick, on-site diagnoses for patients suspected of having cardiovascular disease and those who are suffering acute heart attack. The new technology aids physicians in their assessment and treatment of a wide variety of cardiac diseases and irregular heart rhythms.

Cardiac Rehabilitation—Lake Forest Hospital provides full-service cardiac rehabilitation, serving both continuously and intermittently monitored patients, through monitored exercise (blood pressure and telemetry monitoring), risk factor identification and risk management techniques. Our cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to limit the physical and emotional effects of cardiac illness; reduce the risk for sudden death or relapse; control cardiac symptoms; stabilize and/or improve each person’s overall health; and enhance the patient’s quality of life. For appointment scheduling or additional information, please call (847) 535-6183.

We offer a variety of appointment times to best fit our patient's busy schedules. Please call to determine the best appointment time for you.
