Urology
Lake Forest Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for urologic problems that can affect men, including state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment capabilities for bladder disorders, erectile dysfunction, kidney and urinary tract disorders, enlarged prostate (benign prostate hyperplasia), prostate cancer, urinary incontinence issues and more. We also offer state-of-the-art lithotripter treatment to help eliminate kidney and gallbladder stones in a minimally invasive, pain-free manner.
Prostate Cancer—Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in men, and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Fortunately, most prostate cancers can be treated effectively when caught early. While one in six American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetimes, today’s treatments are highly effective, and only one in 33 men will die from the disease.
At Lake Forest Hospital, we offer prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood testing, as well as other state-of-the-art methods for the accurate detection of prostate cancer. Our board-certified urologists are skilled at providing leading-edge and conventional surgical treatments, as well as other advanced treatments, which fight cancer while minimizing the risk to sexual or urinary function. Our pathologists, urologists, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists work collaboratively to diagnose and treat this disease, and help men return to healthy living. Kidney and ureter stones—For patients suffering from painful kidney or ureter stones, Lake Forest Hospital offers lithotripter treatment, a state-of-the-art machine that emits a pulse-like energy that causes the stone(s) to be broken into tiny sand-like fragments. The process usually takes about 30 minutes to vaporize an individual stone. Stones that are 2.5 centimeters can be treated with one procedure. The stone fragments must be passed later by the patient. A follow-up X-ray is taken about a month after the procedure to monitor the effectiveness of the therapy.
We offer a variety of appointment times to best fit our patient's busy schedules. Please call to determine the best appointment time for you.
