Prostate Cancer—Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in men, and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Fortunately, most prostate cancers can be treated effectively when caught early. While one in six American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetimes, today’s treatments are highly effective, and only one in 33 men will die from the disease.

At Lake Forest Hospital, we offer prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood testing, as well as other state-of-the-art methods for the accurate detection of prostate cancer. Kidney and ureter stones—For patients suffering from painful kidney or ureter stones, Lake Forest Hospital offers lithotripter treatment, a state-of-the-art machine that emits a pulse-like energy that causes the stone(s) to be broken into tiny sand-like fragments. The process usually takes about 30 minutes to vaporize an individual stone. Stones that are 2.5 centimeters can be treated with one procedure. The stone fragments must be passed later by the patient. A follow-up X-ray is taken about a month after the procedure to monitor the effectiveness of the therapy.
